In the case of Kyoto
protocol, are the developed countries supposed to open their emission cuts to
international verification. Has this been decided or are still under talks as I
only found that verification for developing countries (voluntarily cutting
emissions) to be open to international verification is being deliberated.
The Kyoto Protocol is an international treaty, which extends
the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that
commits State Parties to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, based on the
premise that (a) global warming exists and (b) man-made CO2 emissions have
caused it.
The International Emission trading program, the Kyoto
Protocol program, provides for trading across nations. This program, under the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, launched phase 1 in
2007.
This program invests in low carbon technology to reduce
emissions; participants buy permits from one another, or buy carbon offsets
from projects in developing countries under the Clean Development Mechanism
(CDM)
I wanted to
understand the verification process....is it voluntary or international level?
Not just voluntary but verified through international
mechanism by independent verification
