Its
common in upsc that some questions will be out of blue . No idea from which
section it is generated. So its not uncommon in upsc..Also plz avoid prejudices like, in the previous
years particular section was focussed more by upsc so focusing more on this
section and giving less importance to all other sections! I remember that there
were lots of preference by people for Tamil optional . Many started opting for
it. One particular year entire optional was crushed and hardly 3-4 people
passed it with that optional. Same happened with pub ad as you all know.Same
principle is applicable to prelimns also. Give equal importance to all subjects.
Dont over study a single subject juz bcoz u like it and dont avoid a subject
entirely bcoz u dont like it! At the same time give importance by doing cost
benefit analysis. For example in the science part if we wanna learn biology for
prelims, we can do it For eternity. But thats not worth it.So allot lesser time
for that so that the benefit is more than the cost we invest! To all
candidates: Compulsorily make a timetable. Timetable should not be within your
comfort zone! Put a timetable in such a way that you can complete 70-80% only
on a particular day. Remaining 20% u have to stretch yourself and aspire everyday
to complete it. Thats how your elasticity to put more efforts will increase day
by day! This was the first suggestion given by a senior when I started
preparing. It worked out well. In the timetable itself allot time for eating,
sleeping, relaxing or entertainment, and revision of your subjects. Make it and
paste it in front of you when you wake up every morning! It works like how a
man is running for his life when he is chased by a dog! Very effective it is! And
as far as science subjects like physics, chemistry, biology are considered, u
need not to dive too deep. Know the basics. Avoid reading all science subjects
at a stretch. Mix the subjects for any particular day in the timetable to keep
the preparation lively. For example keep two chapters in polity, two chapters
in economics and one chapter in science. U wont get bored. When you feel down
or lose your enthusiasm (which will happen sometimes as it is a marathon not a
sprint) try to do things which you did when you started preparation. It helped
me to get back the energy. Yup no need to feel insecured regarding career! Any
x,y or z had crossed and you also have to cross this stage. If you prepare for
this exam very focussedly consistently , some or the other way you wil get
settled. In Tamil we say, yaanai irundhalum aayiram pon, eranthalum aayiram
pon( even I the elephant is alive or dead, its worth a gold treasure)So
definitely this field will make u an informed person in life ! And make time
table only maximum for a week. Dont make it for the whole month. For the whole
month you should have a larger picture that by the end of this month I should
complete these these and these. Make micro plans only for week. Macro for
month. Micro for a long period does not work out. Also avoid companions in
preparation whose standards is not upto the level demanded by upsc. They need a
different strategy altogether. Your preparing wont sync with each other then. By
doing so you are pulled backwards. And also dont allow the companionship of
non-serious candidates. Like somebody will think" I am ok even I I get it
or dont get it. I am just giving a try". These people will definitely pull
down your spirit and enthusiasm in whole preparation. Choose a companion in
such a way that even if you are lazy he/she should be able to pull u up to
complete the syllabus. Remember if you get a companion of upsc standards then
your burden is halved! U ve to stretch ur self. . Upsc is not abt being in ur
comfort zone.. if u stay ter ,u.ll not reach any wer. .. so better come out of
your cocoon n then try to excel ur goals... set small targets more than
yesterday which u wer able to do... build daily. .. It's like exercising..
first day u r in hell lot of a pain...then if u really continue to go to the
gym next day n then continue it becomes routine n u go far from wer u
started... But on the other hand if u feel the pain the first day which everyone
will n worry abt it. Crib abt it n skip gym the second day... u have failed... Many
ppl fail...I don't think u r in that second day failure case.. U have to have
perseverance to achieve Wat u dream abt achieving in life!!!
